MED BALL FORWARD SCOOP TOSS
The Forward Scoop toss occurs facing the wall the entire time. The mechanics of the toss are very similar to a Lateral Scoop Toss accept instead to tossing across your body, you will toss in line with forward momentum. Shoulder and Hip Turn are very important here as are balance and managing your weight and center of gravity relative to rotation. This MB Toss will mimic the two hockey shots used most frequently, the snap and wrist shot.
Med Ball Forward Scoop Toss: Tall Kneel
- The Primary Focus of Tall Kneel Scoop Toss is Shoulder and Hip Turn.
- Stance: Position yourself in a Tall Kneeling position, hip width, at arm’s length and facing the wall. Kneel as tall as possible.
- Hand Placement: Place both hands behind and slightly to the side of the ball. Fingers pointing away and thumbs pointed up at address.
- Hip Drive: Begin by turning your shoulders 90° to the wall, placing the ball on the side of your outside hip. Rotate your hips the same direction as your shoulders. Your outside thigh will be straight. Your inside hip will be slightly set back.
- Hip Turn: Focus on Hip Turn and Extension. Invision having your hips drive the ball towards the wall. Your hands are there just to guide and then catch the ball. The Hip Turn is short and powerful and is exactly to movement you need to replicate when shooting the puck. Release: Have your hands follow the ball to the wall.
- Finish: Finish Tall, hips and shoulders square to the wall. Catch the ball and return to your starting position. The ball shouldn’t come more than a foot off your hands.
