MED BALL FORWARD SCOOP TOSS / OFF LEG
Off Leg is tossing the ball from the same side as your lead leg. Mimicking a shot often used to surprise a goalie shooting off stride. It requires an exceptional shoulder turn with a powerful open, instead of shut, hip turn. This toss also requires tremendous balance.
Med Ball Forward Scoop Toss / Off Leg: Step-In
- The Primary Focus of the Step-in Off Leg Forward Scoop Toss is to create more forward momentum, working on braking through balance and stability to properly execute the toss
- Stance: Begin in athletic position, Feet shoulder width apart, approximately 10ft away and facing the wall.
- Hand Placement: Place both hands behind and slightly to the side of the ball. Fingers pointing away with thumbs pointed up at address.
- Load / Drive Phase: Two things must happen at the same time, ONE, is Take Away, TWO is Step-In by creating separation as you take one step forward. Rotate your shoulders 90° away from the wall around your forward (off) leg. Keeping your arms relatively straight, rotate the ball near our outside hip. During your Step-In, take a powerful step forward. Your feet should be 2-3 ft apart, at hip width. Lead foot is flat, and on the ball of your rear foot. Try to approximately 60% of your body weight on that forward leg. Front shin angle is vertical, with rear leg straight. Your spine angle should match the angle of your rear leg.
- Toss the ball as hard as you can driving your hands and inside shoulder towards the wall. Pull your trail shoulder back to accelerate your shoulder turn.
- Release: Have your hands follow the ball to the wall.
- Finish: Finish with hips and shoulders square to the wall in a very stable position. The more stable you are, the harder you will be able to toss the ball. Attempt to hold your finish for 2 sec. and repeat
- Effort: The MB Toss must be performed with 100% Effort. You cannot toss the MB hard enough
