LATERAL BOUNDING STEP DOWN: PAUSE W/ MB

LATERAL BOUNDING

Due to the specific nature of the skating stride and mechanics, Lateral Bounding becomes a very important part of the training process because it helps reinforce biomechanical requirements to become a successful skater. Training an explosive lateral stride followed by a strong and stable landing onto the opposite leg are both key training components.

LATERAL BOUNDING w/ MB

Lateral Bounds w/ MB are part of our Lateral Bounding Series and are taught in a specific progression. Lateral Bounding with a Medicine Ball not only increases the load and subsequent difficulty of the lateral hip loading phase to the bound, holding the Medicine ball to your chest also helps to focus on proper shoulder turn and spine angle control related to balance and lateral movement.

Lateral Bounding Step Down: Pause w/ MB

A Step Down creates more downward force, which in turn requires more power to decelerate and change direction. Subsequently adding more difficulty to the jump. This type of landing will increase hip stability and loading power. The Primary Focus will be on a Proper Hip Load and deceleration into the landing Phase

  • Begin Standing on a 12-18” Box
  • Wrap your arms around and hold the Medicine ball close to your chest
  • Step off the box to increase force to the loading position
  • Land on either leg in the proper power position.
  • Maintain good posture with your chest up and turned toward your loaded hip.
  • Your back towards your intended path to bound
  • Laterally bound landing quietly in the same load position on the opposite foot.
  • Stick the last bound and pause for 2 sec
  • Distance is not the primary objective here, although it is not discouraged with proper form.
