LATERAL BOUNDING W/MB: TOUCH/PAUSE

LATERAL BOUNDING W/MB: TOUCH/PAUSE

LATERAL BOUNDING

Due to the specific nature of the skating stride and mechanics, Lateral Bounding becomes a very important part of the training process because it helps reinforce biomechanical requirements to become a successful skater. Training an explosive lateral stride followed by a strong and stable landing onto the opposite leg are both key training components.

LATERAL BOUNDING w/ MB

Lateral Bounds w/ MB are part of our Lateral Bounding Series and are taught in a specific progression. Lateral Bounding with a Medicine Ball not only increases the load and subsequent difficulty of the lateral hip loading phase to the bound, holding the Medicine ball to your chest also helps to focus on proper shoulder turn and spine angle control related to balance and lateral movement.

Lateral Bounding w/ MB: Touch/Pause

Touch / Pause puts emphasis on the Transition Phase from landing with a proper load of the hip to transitioning by yielding with a strong deceleration to applying force in the opposite direction. The Primary Focus will be on a Proper Shoulder Turn along with a Proper Hip Load and deceleration from Landing Phase into smooth change of direction

  • Begin standing laterally to the intended path.
  • Wrap your arms around and hold the Medicine ball close to your chest
  • Quickly breakdown into an athletic single leg stance on your trail leg
  • During this Load Phase, your hip should line up directly over your knee and foot
  • Maintain good posture with your chest up and turned toward your loaded hip.
  • Your back towards your intended path to bound
  • After the first bound, without pause, yield to the landing and immediately bound back to your starting position.
  • Pause for 2 sec and repeat
  • Distance is not the primary objective here, although it is not discouraged with proper form.
